Brief introduction
Division of Chemistry and Ionizing Radiation Measurement Technology is mainly in charge of establishing and maintaining public standards of measurement, traceability and transmission of measurement values, examination of measuring instruments quality, research on testing method in the fields of chemistry and ionizing radiation in eastern China area and Shanghai Municipality, also other works such as developing and delivering reference material,participating in international comparisons for ionizing radiation dose, etc. The main laboratories of this division are located at the Physicochemical Building and Ionizing Radiation Building in Zhangjiang headquarters, equipped with measuring facilities at the advanced international level. The radiation dosimetry laboratory of this division serves as member of the Secondary Standard Dosimetry Laboratories (SSDLs) network which is set by the International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA)and the World Health Organization(WHO). There are six experts in this division actively participating in the works of relevant national metrology and standardization technical committees.
The division has established 20 public standards of measurement, among which 19 are the highest level ones in eastern China area. The division carries out pattern evaluations of new and imported measuring instruments, verification of imported measuring instruments, and supervision inspection for the quality of measuring instruments, appointed by the administrative departments for measurement at different levels. The division is capable of carrying out 35 verification items, 46 calibration items and 35 testing items. It can also provide 111 certified reference materials approved by AQSIQ(General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China), and 63 other reference materials.
Another important task of this division is carrying out researching activities for measurement and testing, developing national technical specifications and standards. Since 1990’s, the division has received about 10 items of Science and Technology Progress Awards conferred by relative Ministries of the country and the Shanghai Municipal Government for its scientific and technical works, and many research achievements have been adopted by national verification regulations, and many self-developed reference materials have been the first ones in China.
Service features
The laboratory of reference materials development is the earliest exploiter of this field in China, which can provide researching and customizing services for reference materials with special purpose. Recently, its research and development of reference materials is expanding to new fields such as biochemistry and environmental chemistry. It also provides technical support for ensuring the safety of food, medical treatment and cosmetic, etc.
The laboratory of chemical metrology is one of the outrunner of this field in China, which has prepared many national verification regulations in chemical field. It has developed a series of public standards of measurement for high and new technical industrialization needs and social demands. Now it concentrates on developing the chemical metrology system.
The laboratory of ionizing radiation is the main one in China which carries out the transmission of measurement values for radioactivity and dosimetry. It also provides the verifications, calibrations and testing service in the whole range of radiotherapy, radiation protection and environmental radiation inspection.
The on-the-spot testing service for radiotherapy medical equipments can carry out scientific analysis and evaluation for those special large equipments. The laboratory actively tracks the international advanced radiotherapy technology and equipments in order to ensure the accuracy and safety of the therapy beams for the various new medical equipments.
The division can also provide technical services for multi-elements radioactive measurements and environmental radiation monitoring, carrying out radioactive isotope analysis and content measurements for samples of air, soil, water, foodstuff, construction material, geological swatch, nuclear waste, etc., especially proficient at microanalysis and low-radioactive sample measurements.
